As we all do, young people find happiness in being involved in
relationships that are exclusive to themselves and a significant
other person. Romantic relationships provide opportunities for a
young person to feel special, to share affection and intimacy as
well as their interests. When romances are one-sided or when
relationships go off track, it can be difficult for a young person
to deal with. They may have trouble assessing the situation, or may
dwell on it for days and delay ending the relationship. In
circumstances where the young person's safety or happiness is
compromised, it is important that someone they trust can be there
to talk to or help make them make decisions, and also, that they
get involved and do positive things that remind them they are going
to be OK.
